Longmire Days 2020

Craig Johnson

Things I do in January… 1. Try to remember which year it is and write it correctly on checks. 2. Answer the question, when are the dates for Longmire Days this year? Traditionally we’ve released the dates for Longmire Days, our festival in Buffalo, Wyoming celebrating all things Longmire including the books and television series in late January. From its humble beginnings with me sitting under an umbrella in front of the Busy Bee Café with a stack of books and whimsically arguing with a local rancher who was sure I’d moved to Jackson — Longmire Days has grown into an international event pulling fans from all over the world to the tiny town of Buffalo, Wyoming, the model for my fictional hamlet of Durant. I don’t imagine anybody is more surprised than I am at the success of the event which allows the public access to not only me, but the actors and actresses involved with the Netflix (and now the Outdoor Channel) series. But there’s a really simple reason why the festival has been covered by the media and lauded as the to- do event in the American West — you. Longmire Days is a direct reflection of the wonderful people who attend every year and reflect the attitudes and mores of the good sheriff. Every year the Buffalo Police Chief and Sheriff of Johnson County get together and release a statement on the criminal activity involved with having close to fifteen thousand extra people for the summer weekend — and the surprise? There’s generally none. Keeping in mind that these folks are fans of a fictitious sheriff, it’s the most law-abiding, best-behaving group of individuals this side of a book tour that I’ve ever seen. Things are a little different this year in that we’ve created a non-profit organization to administer Longmire Days, the Longmire Foundation, but we hope to be able to release the dates in early February. So that everybody gets an equal footing on getting the limited hotel, motel and campsites in the area… And allow the fine folks of Buffalo to prepare for the onslaught, the dates will be announced very soon in the three following ways… 1. Through these Post-It Newsletters that you receive via e-mail on my website at www.craigallenjohnson.com. 2. Through the coming official website of the Longmire Days. 3. On the official Longmire Days Facebook page. I look forward to seeing you at Longmire Days, and now if somebody could just follow me around and remind me what year it is so I could write it on my checks… See you on the trail, Craig Return to Post-Its
